🚨 Major Health & Safety Prosecution: Travis Perkins Fined £2 Million
In a stark reminder of the consequences of inadequate load securing, builders’ merchant Travis Perkins has been fined £2 million after a fatal incident in East Sussex. In May 2020, a timber load fell from one of its lorries, striking and killing 28-year-old Jack Stevens, a father of three, as he drove along the A26. The court found that the load had been secured with only a single strap, a method deemed "grossly inadequate and unsafe." Travis Perkins admitted to three offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act and has since reviewed its vehicle load safety procedures at a national level .
This tragic case underscores the critical importance of proper load securing and adherence to safety protocols to protect all road users.
